Now is not the time. I’m super busy. I have four children. I’m the director of two companies, have a job that needs a lot of me, have just become a fellow of The Chartered College for Teaching, am in the middle of a masters at Oxford and have a garden that needs me. Oh, and I have a wedding to plan.
But I can’t help it. I can’t let this one go. I am incensed at the money wasted on crap teacher training and, at 2am a good few nights ago, I had one of those light bulb moments that doesn’t let you go back to sleep.
I explained my whole nights worth of thinking to my other half and didn’t sound like a nutcase. Even he could see that this might just work. So has every other person I’ve pitched it to.
The ‘elevator pitch’ is this…what if teachers could find the training they need from the very best opportunities out there? What if we could crowd source it? We live in 2018, so why are we still buying day courses and training programmes that just don’t work? And how much talent is there, walking their walk in classrooms up and down the land, who we could learn so much from only we were connected.
By pure chance I managed to bring my ‘walk’ out of my classroom and make it into a ‘talk’. After a messy divorce and approximately 30 years of bad luck I bought a house with no bathroom, no kitchen and an awful lot of water where it shouldn’t be. And I bought it in an area that was about to become the place to be. So when I sold it I made enough money to start my own consultancy. By the kindness of strangers and the generosity of friends it worked. And it has led to great things. I had four months to make it work, but people much more talented than I don’t get that.
ConnectED could make it happen for so many people. Great training, simply displayed in an easy to use marketplace. And the very best bit; peer review. There are a few marketplaces out there…but ConnectED is more than that. If you get ConnectED you become part of a community. We are not gumtree for teacher training. We’re more like AirBnB. Crowdsourced teacher training that grows its own talent and decides the definition of high quality teacher training.
Teachers learn in so many ways. I’m using the term teacher training to encompass any number of learning opportunities. You can list a workshop, a conference, in person training, an app, a print resource, your book, your keynote idea or coaching. You don’t have to charge and if you do you only pay 1% to us. I’d love to do this for free but I want to keep the lights on!
So if you have a talent; get sharing. We can take care of the business end so you can concentrate on creating an amazing training experience for the people you train.
If you are looking for development, for you, your school, your MAT etc, have a look at the ConnectED crowd. And review your socks off! That goes for training providers too. The ConnectED community is not a one way street. By reviewing each other we build in quality.
The review aspect has another dimension too, but I couldn’t think of a street related analogy. Please let me know about your experience of the site; how does it work for you? Have we missed something?
